3 Things you need to know about IELTS for UK Visas and Immigration

IELTS for UKVI is a Secure English Language Test (SELT) approved by the government of the UK. IELTS UKVI test can be used to prove the English language proficiency by candidates who apply for a UK visa and Immigration application.

So, if you are wishful to migrate to the UK for the purpose of work, education at a graduate or a post-graduate level or professional registration, you will need to take an IELTS for UKVI test at a test location specified by UKVI. As you prepare for your upcoming IELTS test, here’re the three things you should know about the UK visas and immigration test.

1. It is the same IELTS Test
Many candidates have a misconception that IELTS is different if you’re taking the test for UK visa purposes. But in actual, it is the same test in terms of IELTS test format, content, questions and level of difficulty. The only difference in IELTS for UKVI is that it is designed to meet certain administrative and security requirements which are more specific to UK Visas and Immigration application.

2. Secure test provisions
The UK Visas and Immigration department is very specific about their security protocols, and the SELT approved IELTS test ensures that the candidates taking the test have followed all security guidelines.
The test locations and dates are selected by the UK government.
The test is mandatory for students taking admission at a UK university below the bachelor’s degree level.
If you do not intend to apply for a UK visa, then you need not take the IELTS UKVI from a UK government approved test location. However, before you make the IELTS online registration, check which visa you need and all the necessary conditions required with the visa application.

3. Steps to book the IELTS UKVI test online

Candidates who want to make an IELTS UKVI registration online can book the test in these three easy steps.

  • Step 1: At first, check the type of test you need and the score you need to attain for your visa from the official website of UK visas and immigration.
  • Step 2: Verify your IELTS test type.

Here is a list of approved IELTS tests for UKVI:

IELTS Academic- for students who pursue higher education in the UK.

IELTS Life Skills- it is the test of Speaking and Listening, designed to meet the requirements of UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for certain visa categories and other immigration purposes. IELTS Life Skills is available at CEFR Levels A1, A2 and B2.
